Moldova seeks good relations with all countries, both in the East and the West, but it cannot accept the friendship of nations that resort to blackmail or interfere in its internal affairs. “Those who blackmail us cannot be our friends. We want Moldovans to decide Moldova’s future, not Kremlin money. We currently regard Russia as an aggressor state,” President Maia Sandu stated in response to journalists’ questions about Moldova’s relations with Russia.
The president emphasized the importance of respecting Moldova’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, calling for withdrawal of Russian troops from its territory.
“We want to be left alone. We demand that our territorial integrity and sovereignty be respected. It includes the withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldova. Moldovans must decide Moldova’s future, not Kremlin money. It means no interference in our domestic affairs. I don’t believe this is an unreasonable request. Sadly, we see Russia’s actions as those of an aggressor state every single day,” President Sandu said.

Moldova, the president explained, values strong relationships with nations that respect its people and independence. “We have good relations with countries in both the East and the West, provided they respect our sovereignty. However, those who send dirty money, destabilize our country, or blackmail us cannot be considered friends,” she remarked.
Moldova has consistently condemned Russia’s military aggression against Ukraine, expressing unwavering support and solidarity with the Ukrainian people since the war began.
Currently, Moldova faces an internal conflict fueled by Russia’s continued military presence in the Transnistrian region. Despite numerous international resolutions and calls for Russia to withdraw its troops, the situation remains unresolved, with Russian forces still stationed on Moldovan territory.
