The morning of Sunday, October 27 (read: the electoral debate between Maia Sandu and Alexandr Stoianoglo) started hot! PAS candidate Maia Sandu started her speech first, after the drawing of lots, in which she hinted that Alexandr Stoianoglo is a Kremlin-supported counter-candidate, while the PSRM candidate emphasized that he is a supporter of Moldova’s European path. The second round of the presidential elections will take place on November 3, 2024.
Maia Sandu: “Unfortunately, at this stage, we have a Trojan horse, a man through whom others want to rule the country. I am sure that no Moldovan wants to be led by the people behind him. They found a facade to come back to power and control state resources. The money does not belong to Shor, Platon, or Dodon. It is money sent from elsewhere. We know who is hiding in this Trojan horse. This debate is not about me and Alexandr Stoianoglo. It is about two different alternatives for our country – between openness and isolation, stability and destabilization – the choice is important for our future”.
Alexandr Stoianoglo: “My platform is well known: stop population exodus, European modernization of Moldova, infrastructure, education, guarantee of citizens’ rights, security and peace in the region. What will I not do? I guarantee open borders, no oppression against the opposition, and no usurpation of justice, drawing from my experience in visa liberalization. I propose to Mrs. Maiei Sandu that we sign the joint declaration guaranteeing the irreversibility of the EU’s course, irrespective of who wins. This path of freedom must continue.”
