Mayor from Floresti Detained After Hiding for Seven Years Over a 2018 Crime

Police arrested Victor Boicu, the mayor of Frumusica village in Floresti district, after he allegedly evaded the law for seven years. Authorities accuse him of committing a serious crime in his locality in 2018 — an act that only now has come to light.

Along with the mayor, police detained other people involved in the case: his father, a forensic doctor, and a fellow villager, pulsmedia.md reported.

According to the investigation, Boicu’s father and the forensic doctor helped him cover up the case by falsifying the forensic report. The villager acted as an accomplice in the beating that led to a person’s death.

Officers handcuffed Boicu — a representative of PAS — for a murder committed seven years ago. He allegedly beat to death a worker at his cattle farm because the worker let the animals stray into a wheat field. The victim, like other laborers, came from a disadvantaged family and was reportedly intoxicated during the incident.

Media reports claim the killing happened in the presence of the victim’s relatives. The mayor allegedly told them not to speak about the crime and promised financial and other support in return.

“After about seven years, because he allegedly failed to keep his promise — by then already elected for a third local mandate, this time from the PAS — the victims turned to law enforcement. It led to a more thorough investigation, the exhumation of the victim’s body, and a new forensic examination, which determined that the man died from being brutally beaten,” pulsmedia.md wrote.

The National Police and the Prosecutor’s Office have not yet responded with details about the case.

Meanwhile, the Action and Solidarity Party withdrew its political support for the mayor of Frumusica, Floresti district, after press reports linked him to the murder case.

“Regarding the mayor of Frumusica, Floresti district, suspected of committing a murder seven years ago, we clarify the following: This morning, the PAS National Standing Bureau decided to withdraw political support. He was never a PAS member, although he ran for the party in the last local elections. We hope that law enforcement will fulfill their duty in clarifying the case and punishing the perpetrator according to the law,” PAS representatives stated.

The statement came after pulsmedia.md reported that police handcuffed 38‑year‑old Victor Boicu on August 13, suspecting that he had beaten to death a cattle farm worker from a farm he allegedly owned.
