The experience accumulated by Moldova in countering the hybrid war waged by the Russian Federation should be studied and adopted by EU member states, Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresan said in Chisinau. According to him, “we have much to learn from Moldova,” noting that the tactics used by Moscow in the country could be applied in other European states as well. These issues were discussed during the meeting of the EU–Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee.

Siegfried Muresan stated that the European Union has many lessons to learn from the way Moldovan authorities responded to the Kremlin’s hybrid attacks. He highlighted attempts by Moscow to influence public opinion through disinformation and manipulation during Moldova’s recent elections, describing them as a wake-up call for the entire EU.

“We discussed the reaction of Moldova’s authorities in the face of the hybrid war launched by the Russian Federation in the region. We talked about the attempts to misinform, manipulate public opinion, and the responses. We concluded that there are many things to learn from the people and authorities of Moldova,” Muresan said.

He stressed that the methods used by Moscow in Moldova may be replicated in EU member states.

“We are aware that what the Russian Federation unsuccessfully attempted in Moldova during the latest elections, it will try in other EU states as well. It is essential to correctly assess the situation and learn from Moldova’s experience,” he noted.

Mureșan reiterated the European Parliament’s strong support for Moldovan authorities in strengthening resilience and combating disinformation.

The EU–Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee convened today in Chisinau—the first meeting in the current legislative term of Moldova’s Parliament. The Committee adopted a declaration calling on the European Council to open accession negotiations on three clusters: fundamental values, internal market, and external relations.
