The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, reiterated her support for Moldova at the Euronest meeting. The official pointed out that Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and Azerbaijan are the states for which support and cooperation is wanted.
According to the head of the EU Parliament, the meeting is an example of parliamentary diplomacy paying off. She also referred to hybrid threats, noting that the war in Ukraine has shaken the security system, and Europe must brace itself for sanctions and to isolate the Kremlin.
“It is clear that we have come a long way and we can agree that the parliamentary assembly proved a good example of how parliamentary diplomacy will bear fruit. The European Parliament remains committed to supporting the Eastern Partnership. We will continue to make progress in relation to the EU candidacies of Moldova and Ukraine, we will also work with Georgia to become a candidate country. We will cooperate with Azerbaijan. We have a lot to offer each other in terms of democratic values. The war in Ukraine has shaken the security structure, driven inflation to record levels, driven up energy prices. It is important to have a harmonized response, whether it is sanctions or strengthening the isolation of the Kremlin. This gathering remains the most appropriate forum for these themes,” said Metsola.
