Moldova firmly supports Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity within its internationally recognized borders, including Crimea. Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi made the statement during the sixth Crimea Platform Summit in New York, held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
Popsoi also condemned what he described as Russia’s unjustified and illegal war, including the illegal occupation and attempted annexation of Ukrainian territories.
“Moldova’s position is principled and unequivocal: Ukraine’s internationally recognized borders must be respected. Our common objective must be clear: supporting Ukraine in restoring its territorial integrity and ensuring that such violations do not happen again,” Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi said.
The Moldovan foreign minister stressed the importance of cooperation between states and noted that Russia’s military aggression has had major consequences extending beyond Ukraine’s borders.
“Its impact affects regional, food and energy security, as well as the economic stability of Europe as a whole. Moldova is no exception. Peace cannot be ensured when international law is violated and aggression goes without consequences,” Popsoi added.
The minister said that Chisinau would continue supporting Ukraine, highlighting Moldova’s contribution, particularly through hosting refugees and facilitating the transit and export of Ukrainian grain to international markets.
The summit also adopted a joint declaration by the participating countries, which was supported by Moldova.
