The accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union and the strengthening of cooperation with Romania were the main topics discussed in Chisinau on Friday, 19 June, during a meeting between Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi and Romanian Senator Titus Corlatean, chair of the Foreign Policy Committee of the Romanian Senate.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the officials focused on Moldova’s objective of opening all EU negotiation clusters and the need to use the current opportunity to accelerate the European integration process.

Popsoi thanked Romania for its support in advancing reforms and bringing Moldova closer to the European Union. Corlatean reaffirmed that Bucharest will continue supporting Chisinau in both EU accession and joint development projects.

“Romania is our main partner and a reliable supporter of the Republic of Moldova. In the coming period, we will focus on advancing accession negotiations with the European Union, developing the economy, and implementing projects that bring direct benefits to citizens. We continue to count on Romania’s support to achieve these objectives,” Popsoi said.

The two officials also discussed the regional security situation, emphasizing the importance of close coordination between Moldova and Romania in the context of ongoing challenges.
