Ministry of Education changes admission rules for the most popular high schools

Theoretical high schools may organize additional tests in the entrance examination for admission to secondary education if, in the last three years, they have registered more applicants than places available for registration. There will be a single, nationwide supplementary examination, which will be developed by the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment. The test will include subjects with an advanced degree of complexity compared to those of the proficiency exams.

Valentina Olaru, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education and Research, told  RLIVE TV “National Consensus” that the changes made are aimed at reducing the compromise of assessment. Until now, the most sought-after high schools set their additional admission tests for 10th grade.

“As with the graduation exams, this test will be developed and secured by the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment. The agency will announce a center where all students who have chosen one of the high schools, will have the opportunity to request an additional test with which they will sit the test. A student can apply for admission to three high schools at the same time and choose or be chosen according to the average obtained,” added the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education.

The organization of an additional test in the secondary school entrance examination will be based on a decision of the teaching board of the educational institution. It will be coordinated with the district or municipal education directorate and will be organized under the conditions laid down in the Methodology for the admission of pupils to secondary education.
