The National Army deployed a new contingent today, April 3, for the European Union mission EUFOR ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina, announced the Ministry of Defense. The contingent consists of 18 professional soldiers who will carry out security and guard missions, as well as patrol duties in the designated area for six months.
During the ceremony at Military Camp 142, Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatii emphasized that deploying a second military contingent in such an operational theater demonstrates Moldova’s commitment to international peace and stability.
“Every participation in international missions brings new experiences, opportunities to interact with soldiers from other contingents, and confirmation that we can support global peacekeeping efforts. I am glad we have made concrete steps in this direction, thanks to our external partners,” said Anatolie Nosatii.

The minister urged the contingent to carry out their missions with honor, dedication, and integrity, just as they have done at home and in other operations abroad.
“Security and defense collaboration within the EUFOR ALTHEA operation represents a culmination of the multidimensional cooperation between Romania and Moldova. As Romania’s ambassador, I take great pride in seeing our brothers actively contributing to the European Union’s peacekeeping efforts and promoting stability in the Western Balkans,” said Romania’s Ambassador to Moldova, Cristian-Leon Turcanu.
“The European Union plays a key role in peacekeeping, conflict prevention, and strengthening international security. By participating in the mission in Bosnia and Herzegovina, you have joined our efforts in the EU’s largest operation to date. I want to express my gratitude for this contribution,” concluded Máté Csicsai, Deputy Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova.
Moldovan soldiers will serve in EUFOR ALTHEA for six months, operating within the Romanian contingent alongside troops from Austria, Bulgaria, Hungary, and Turkey.
The first National Army contingent deployed to Bosnia and Herzegovina in September 2024.
