Moldova Adopted a New Legislation on the Vine and Wine Sector with European standards

Lawmakers approved in the second reading the draft law to align Moldova’s vine and wine legislation with European Union standards.

The new legislation seeks to enhance transparency and traceability in vine and wine production while ensuring the quality and authenticity of marketed products. It also aims to promote free market competition.

Key amendments include the terms used in regulation in the vine-growing and winemaking sectors, the introduction of mandatory registry records, and the annual submission of vine and wine declarations.

The Law of Vine and Wine is expanded to include regulations on traditional mentions for vine and wine products, defining terms such as “protected geographical indication” and “protected designation of origin.”

Additionally, the draft law regulates the conditions for producing these wines and the registration of economic agents in the Vine and Wine Registry.

A crucial aspect of the new legislation is the regulation of labeling and packaging. Labels and packaging already in stock before the law takes effect may be used until December 31, 2025.
