Moldova and Finland Strengthen Ties in Cybersecurity and Green Energy

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov, and Finnish Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering, Joakim Strand, discussed strengthening cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Finland in cybersecurity and green energy during an official visit to Helsinki.

The two officials also addressed Moldova’s European integration, institutional reforms, and the key transformations required for joining the European Union.

“Finland firmly supports Moldova’s path to the EU from all perspectives, and we will do everything we can—including in Brussels—to convey our message of support. We hope and are working for the Republic of Moldova to begin negotiations on the first cluster of EU chapters as soon as possible. Moldova is part of the European family and our friend,” said Joakim Strand.

Cristina Gherasimov emphasized the importance of adopting Finland’s good governance practices, highlighting its strong institutions, competitive economy, and high-quality education system.

“Finland serves as a model of a state with strong institutions, a competitive economy, and a society rooted in European values. Its experience as an EU member over the past three decades is invaluable for Moldova on its European path,” stated Gherasimov.

She also expressed gratitude for Finland’s consistent support:

“I thanked the authorities in Helsinki for standing by us and supporting Moldova’s EU aspirations. We remain determined to join the European family—a space of peace, development opportunities, and a better life for every citizen,” she said.
