Moldova and the United Kingdom signed a Defence and Security Partnership and an Agreement on the Readmission of Persons in Illegal Stay. The signing ceremony, held in Chisinau, was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi and the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, David Lammy.
On the same day, Romania’s Foreign Affairs Minister, LuminiÈ›a Odobescu, visited ChiÈ™inău for trilateral discussions with her Moldovan and British counterparts.
Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi emphasized the importance of the trilateral format, noting the strong support from Romania and the United Kingdom for Moldova’s democracy and development.
“I thanked our partners for their support, particularly for signing these two significant agreements. The bilateral partnership in the security sector will enhance dialogue and cooperation on regional security, resilience against hybrid threats, and operational-level collaboration. The Readmission Agreement aligns with international standards to combat illegal migration while fully respecting human rights. It ensures the safe return of Moldovan citizens residing illegally in the UK and does not affect those legally living or working there,” Popsoi stated.

He also addressed Moldova’s preparations for the upcoming presidential elections and referendum. “I underscored Moldova’s commitment to countering foreign interference aimed at destabilizing society, creating divisions, and undermining democracy through illicit financing, misinformation, and cyberattacks.
