Moldova and Ukraine Reaffirm Commitment to EU Integration and Support for Peace

Moldova will continue to support Ukraine “with full determination” until a just and lasting peace is achieved, Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov stated today. She emphasized that Moldova and Ukraine share the same primary goal: to join the European Union as soon as possible.

Speaking alongside Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration and Minister of Justice, Olha Stefanishyna, Gherasimov underlined that both countries view the EU as a peace project. Together, they aim to contribute to writing a new chapter in its history.

“Today, we spoke not just as neighbors but as sisters united by pain and hope,” Gherasimov said. “For more than ten years, Ukraine has endured a tragedy that breaks the hearts of people worldwide. Every day, for the past three years, Ukrainian grandparents, parents, and children have awakened to the sound of air raid alarms.”

Gherasimov referenced recent attacks during the Easter holiday in Kryvyi Rih, Sumy, and Kyiv as stark reminders of the immense cost Ukrainians continue to pay for freedom. “Their suffering is our suffering,” she added. “Moldova feels every echo of this war and knows that just peace is not a concept—it is an urgent, living need.”

She thanked the Ukrainian people for their sacrifices, noting that Ukraine’s courage safeguards not only Moldova but all of Europe. “Your determination gives us strength and hope for a safer, more prosperous future,” Gherasimov said.

She reaffirmed Moldova’s unwavering support for Ukraine, calling the European Union an “anchor of peace” for both nations. “We will continue to support Ukraine politically, diplomatically, and through humanitarian means until peace is restored,” she said. “A united Europe remains the only path to a future where weapons fall silent, and freedom speaks loudest.”

For her part, Olha Stefanishyna expressed gratitude for Moldova’s steadfast support and highlighted the connection between Ukraine’s reform efforts and the path to EU accession.

“Our reforms and our people’s commitment to European integration are inseparable from our resistance to military aggression,” Stefanishyna said. “This struggle motivates us to push forward.”

She noted that Ukraine remains in a critical phase of the accession process and welcomed Moldova’s solidarity. “We shared our progress and challenges. EU membership remains our goal—not only to strengthen Ukraine but to reinforce the entire European community,” she stated.

Stefanishyna emphasized that Ukraine’s resilience can help build a stronger, more unified Europe. “We are at the forefront of the EU enlargement process, and I’m glad we coordinate our efforts. Important decisions lie ahead, but our shared goal remains: to move forward together, no matter the circumstances. You can count on us. I hope we will meet again in Brussels.”
