On September 22, the Republic of Moldova concluded the bilateral screening process that began in July 2024, taking a decisive step toward European Union accession. The Ministry of Finance coordinated the final review of Chapter 33 — financial and budgetary provisions.

Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration and Chief Negotiator Cristina Gherasimov opened the meeting, stressing the milestone’s significance and the responsibility of national institutions in preparing for accession talks.

State Secretaries Maia Savva and Corina Alexa led the Finance Ministry’s team, outlining how Moldova will manage its traditional own resources: customs duties, VAT-based contributions, gross national income, and non-recycled plastic packaging waste. They also detailed measures to ensure transparency and prevent corruption in managing public funds.

European Commission representatives welcomed the presentations, commended the constructive dialogue, and reaffirmed their support for Moldova’s accession efforts.

Because Chapter 33 interlinks with taxation, statistics, environment, and customs union, it sets out concrete steps for Moldova to fully align with EU standards. The Finance Ministry thanked the institutions and experts involved and described the conclusion of bilateral screening as a decisive step on Moldova’s European path.
