Moldova: Determination – a key factor for European integration, says Denmark’s ambassador Søren Jensen

Denmark’s Ambassador to Moldova, Søren Jensen, highlighted the importance of the determination of the Moldovan government and its citizens in their European journey. ”Determination is essential for Moldova’s success in European integration,” Jensen stated in an interview for IPN, emphasizing that international support is already visible.

During the opening of the Danish Embassy in Chisinau, the ambassador described this gesture as ”a sign of solidarity with the Moldovan people,” especially in the current context, marked by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. He reaffirmed Denmark’s support for Moldova’s European aspirations: ”We strongly support your European path and the reforms you need to implement to move forward.”

Regarding the issue of disinformation, Jensen warned of the dangers it poses to Moldova’s democracy and European aspirations. ”Disinformation is a powerful tool used to create confusion and destabilize trust in institutions. Moldova must counter these narratives with facts and transparency.” The ambassador pointed out that Moldova is especially vulnerable to disinformation campaigns from abroad, particularly from Russia, which seeks to undermine the country’s European path.

He emphasized the need for a proactive approach by the Moldovan authorities in fighting disinformation: ”The best weapon against lies is the truth. It is essential to provide clear, transparent information to the public, especially when false narratives attempt to distort reality.” Jensen also stressed the importance of media literacy: ”It’s not just about combating disinformation but also educating the public to recognize and question misleading or false information.”

Regarding regional security, the ambassador stressed that Moldova must choose its European path: ”You must make a strategic decision regarding your shared values with Europe to avoid remaining in a vulnerable grey zone.”

As for the green transition, Jensen emphasized that Moldova has enormous potential in renewable energy: ”Moldova has a promising future in solar and wind energy. You need to collaborate with Romania and Ukraine to develop this sector.” He added that public education and awareness about climate change will be essential to achieve this goal.
