Moldova is facing a commercial electricity deficit today, September 22, as available capacity on the Ukraine–Moldova and Romania–Moldova interconnections has not been sufficient to fully cover demand during peak hours.
Energocom made the announcement as Prime Minister Vasile Tofan was addressing Parliament to request the introduction of a state of emergency in the energy sector. According to data presented by the authorities, the deficit is forecast for four hourly intervals between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
The uncovered volumes are:
- 4 MWh between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.;
- 59 MWh between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.;
- 111 MWh between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.;
- 55 MWh between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
The total forecast deficit for the four-hour period amounts to 229 MWh. For the rest of the day, the capacity needed to cover electricity consumption has been secured.
The situation comes as authorities have announced plans to introduce a state of emergency in the energy and hydrological sectors, with the proposal set to be examined by Parliament.
Against this backdrop, authorities are urging consumers to use electricity responsibly, particularly during the peak period from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Residents are advised to postpone, where possible, the use of high-consumption appliances and avoid wasting electricity.
