The Republic of Moldova will face an electricity deficit this evening between 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., according to the Ministry of Energy and the National Crisis Management Center.
Authorities estimate a commercial electricity shortfall of approximately 74 MWh between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., followed by a deficit of about 56 MWh between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m.
To maintain the stability of the national power system, Moldelectrica will use emergency energy mechanisms, which involve significantly higher costs.
Officials explain that the shortage is caused by the very low water level of the Danube, which affects the ability of several power plants to operate at normal capacity. Water is essential for cooling industrial installations, and reduced river flows limit their operation.
The authorities note that the Republic of Moldova is part of the regional electricity market and relies on energy imports to cover domestic consumption needs.
Citizens are encouraged to reduce electricity consumption, especially between 9:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m., by:
- turning off unnecessary lights and electrical devices;
- postponing the use of washing machines, dryers, and other high-consumption appliances;
- limiting the use of air conditioning units;
- avoiding elevator use whenever possible.
The Ministry of Energy urges consumers to use electricity responsibly in order to reduce pressure on the national energy system during peak hours.
