Several studies show an alarming increase in the trafficking and use of synthetic drugs. Trends are emerging around the world, which is why US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson initiated on Friday, July 7, a configuration of the international community to stimulate countering this phenomenon – the Global Coalition to Combat the Threats Related to Synthetic Drugs.
Interior Minister Ana Revenco took part in the first meeting of the Coalition along with more than 240 participants, representatives of relevant authorities from France, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Italy, Argentina, Canada, Mexico, etc.
Ana Revenco mentioned the importance of the Republic of Moldova joining this early warning mechanism, which will allow the exchange of information between key actors directly or indirectly involved in the fight against drug use.
“To achieve this goal, in the first stage, the Republic of Moldova will improve the relevant legal and regulatory framework, including rules to facilitate the connection of the Republic of Moldova to the European Early Warning System (EWS) for the collection and exchange of information. We must remain vigilant, report suspicious activity, and support initiatives to eliminate synthetic drugs from our communities. By acting together, we make it clear that we will not tolerate the harm caused by these substances to our community,” said the Moldovan Interior Minister.
The active contribution of our country in combating drug trafficking and consumption has already been appreciated at the European level, which was noted by Alexis Gusdil, director of the European Monitoring Center for Drugs and Drug Addiction, during a recent meeting with Ana Revenko.
