Moldova Officially Refuses Russian Delegation to Attend FAO Conference: Moscow’s Response

“Chisinau is abusing its status as a host country.” This is how Maria Zakharova commented on the refusal to allow a Russian delegation to enter Moldova to participate in the 34th session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Regional Conference for Europe.

The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson called the decision, “part of an anti-Russian campaign,” and “another confirmation of the course for the destruction of Russian-Moldovan relations.”

“Chisinau is openly abusing its status as a host of UN events, which calls into question the ability of the Moldovan authorities to act in this capacity in the future,” Maria Zakharova said.

Earlier, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry officially announced the decision not to allow the personal participation of Russian representatives in the regional conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), which will be held in Chisinau from 14 to 17 May.

“The Foreign Ministry has decided not to allow personal participation of official representatives of the Russian Federation, limiting it at the embassy level or in an online format,” the Chisinau-based ministry said.

Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on March 19 that the decision is related to the multiple crises provoked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
