Moldova Promotes Investment and Reforms in Talks with Luxembourg at World Economic Forum

Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu and Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden discussed economic and trade relations, the regional geopolitical situation, and the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on the Republic of Moldova. The talks took place on the sidelines of the 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

“We share a clear common vision to build a European future based on peace, security, and prosperity for our citizens,” Prime Minister Munteanu said.

The Moldovan prime minister highlighted Moldova’s favorable investment climate, especially for entrepreneurs interested in launching businesses in the IT, energy, and infrastructure sectors. He presented key measures to accelerate economic growth, including market liberalization, reducing bureaucracy, modernizing infrastructure, and reforming local public administration.

Prime Minister Luc Frieden reaffirmed Luxembourg’s support for Moldova’s reform agenda, stressing that these efforts play a key role in improving living standards. He also confirmed Luxembourg’s continued support for Moldova’s European integration process and noted the progress achieved so far.

The two leaders also discussed expanding bilateral cooperation through the exchange of best practices in energy, banking and financial services, anti corruption efforts and asset recovery, emergency management, and counterterrorism.

Currently, 23 companies with Luxembourg capital operate in Moldova, with total investments exceeding 211 million lei. Luxembourg ranks 14th among foreign investors by invested capital.
