Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has recalled the country’s ambassador to Russia, Lilian Darii, for consultations following the drone incident near Crocmaz, Stefan Voda district.

The decision comes after President Maia Sandu condemned the incident, in which a drone missile reportedly crashed and exploded near the village.

The Foreign Ministry described the incident as a serious violation of Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and said it endangered the safety of Moldovan citizens.

“Republic of Moldova strongly condemns Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and its consequences for the security of our country and the entire region,” the ministry said.

The drone crashed near Crocmaz on Sunday, August 9. Moldova’s National Police said the aircraft could have been a “drone missile.”

Authorities also noted that Moldova had not previously recorded any cases involving the identification of an aircraft of this type.
