The Republic of Moldova has withdrawn from three more agreements concluded with member states of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). The draft laws denouncing these agreements were approved by Parliament in the second reading.

Among the agreements denounced is the one on visa-free travel for CIS citizens, signed in 1992. Authorities explain the decision as part of aligning with the recommendations of the European Commission and EU visa policies. The measure will affect only the travel of Moldovan citizens to Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, since bilateral agreements exist with the other CIS states.

Parliament has also denounced a 1998 agreement on indirect taxes for exports and imports between CIS states, as well as a 1992 agreement signed in Tashkent concerning payments between economic organizations of the member states.

Authorities note that the provisions of these agreements are outdated and no longer applicable. So far, the Republic of Moldova has denounced a total of 67 CIS agreements as part of its process of alignment with European Union standards.
