A delegation from Moldova’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI) discussed border security, community safety, and cross-border crime prevention with officials from Germany, the Netherlands, and INTERPOL on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.
Authorities plan to expand information exchange with INTERPOL and deploy officers to the international cooperation organization. These measures aim to enhance investigative coordination and enable rapid responses to organized crime and terrorism. Minister of Internal Affairs Daniella Misail-Nichitin met with INTERPOL’s Deputy Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza to discuss strengthening operational information exchange and implementing advanced technologies to detect and prevent security threats.
During discussions with Hans-Georg Engelke, State Secretary of Germany’s Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community, both sides emphasized joint efforts to reinforce border security, stabilize the region, and optimize illegal migration management. By enhancing information exchange and policy coordination with Germany, Moldova seeks to strengthen border control, reduce cross-border crime risks, and improve public safety. The parties also underscored the importance of countering hybrid threats and foreign interference aimed at destabilizing democracy.

At a meeting with David van Weel, State Secretary of the Netherlands’ Ministry of Justice and Security, officials explored innovative solutions to combat disinformation, monitor risks, and bolster cybersecurity. The Netherlands supports Moldova’s security capacity development through the EU Partnership Mission, contributing to infrastructure modernization and specialist training in data protection and cybercrime prevention.
Another key topic was the promotion of a European digital identity. A strategic initiative that will integrate Moldova into the EU’s digital ecosystem and provide citizens with secure access to modern services.
During a meeting with Joachim Herrmann, Minister of the Interior of Bavaria, the MAI delegation highlighted the strong partnership between Moldovan and Bavarian police forces. Both sides stressed the need to expand collaboration, particularly in combating hybrid threats and adopting modern security solutions. They also discussed launching joint projects to enhance public order, improve emergency response, and strengthen citizen security. These initiatives will improve staff training and streamline operations, enabling ministry personnel to address emerging challenges effectively.
