Moldova Takes Center Stage at Romania-Germany Meeting in Berlin

Moldova was a key focus during the official meeting in Berlin between Romanian President Nicusor Dan and German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz. The two leaders reaffirmed their joint commitment to support Moldova against Russia’s destabilization efforts and to accelerate its path toward European Union membership.

“We are coordinating our positions on Moldova. As partners of the Platform for Moldova—a joint initiative—we are working together during these critical months to prevent Russia from destabilizing the country,” Chancellor Merz said at a joint press conference. “Our collaboration also focuses on bringing Moldova closer to the European Union.”

Amid the ongoing war in Ukraine and growing geopolitical pressures in the region, Germany and Romania are deepening cooperation in the fields of security, defense industry, and EU integration support, particularly for Moldova and Ukraine.
