Moldova Takes Urgent Measures as Avian Influenza Outbreaks Increase

In the period from December 22 to January 2, an additional 25 outbreaks of avian influenza have been recorded on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The National Agency for Food Safety (ANSA) reports 15 outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in wild fauna and 10 in domestic birds.

In response to the situation, ANSA has urgently convened the Exceptional Antiepizootic Commission, which has approved an Action Plan for combating and eradicating the avian influenza outbreak. Protective zones of three kilometers and surveillance zones of 10 kilometers have been established.

The National Agency for Food Safety urges bird owners and breeders to keep birds indoors and immediately notify veterinary staff upon observing clinical signs.
