Moldova to Pay 54 Million Lei in Membership Fees to International Organizations. Where Does Most of the Money Go?

In 2025, Moldova will allocate 54 million lei to international organizations as membership fees. The foremost payment, exceeding 10.5 million lei, will go to the Council of Europe (CoE), which Moldova has been a member of since 1995.

The Ministry of Finance has drafted a governmental decision under public consultation until January 6, 2025.

“In the project’s explanatory note, the ministry stated that fulfilling financial commitments to organizations where Moldova holds membership will enhance the country’s image as a reliable partner and support Chisinau in achieving its key international policy goals,” the press release noted.

Membership fees are paid annually. Compared to this year, authorities estimate a 2.5 million lei decrease for next year, keeping total payments roughly at the 2023 level.

Since last year, Moldova has ceased payments to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other affiliated organizations. This decision followed the country’s withdrawal from membership and banking sanctions imposed on Russia after its invasion of Ukraine, saving Chisinau over 8.2 million lei.
