The U.S. has initiated the process of appointing a full-fledged ambassador to Chisinau, but the procedure is taking time, as the U.S. political agenda currently focuses on domestic issues. Vlad Kulminski, the Ambassador of Moldova to Washington, said that Moldova’s situation is not unique and resembles that of other countries in the region, reports IPN.

“Currently, the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau operates under a very professional person who maintains strong connections in Washington. He recently visited Washington. I have known him for 20 years, and we have worked together,” Vlad Kulminski said on the Radio Moldova program “La 360 de grade.”

The diplomat noted that the U.S. administration’s current priorities make the appointment process lengthy. “The U.S. has launched the process of appointing an ambassador. We will see when it reaches completion. Many countries in the region face the same situation. The U.S. focuses all attention on domestic politics, economic growth, and migration. I see this more as a procedural matter,” Vlad Kulminski explained.

The ambassador stressed that observers should not interpret the delay as a political signal. “Only those who do not understand or are unaware of the current situation in the U.S. might call this a political signal. It is not a political signal at all,” he stated.

Currently, Nick Pietrowicz, the deputy chief of mission, serves as chargé d’affaires and heads the U.S. diplomatic mission in Moldova.
