This railway section connects the industrial areas in the north and center of Moldova, including the free economic zones of Marculesti, Balti, Ungheni, and Chisinau. The corridor is important in exporting, importing, and transiting goods to and from Romania and Ukraine. Additionally, it links to the Cainari-Cimishlia-Basarabeasca-Giurgiuleshti railway corridor, facilitating the logistics of goods transshipped through the Danube and Black Sea ports.
