Moldovan citizens will enjoy lower roaming tariffs for calls in EU countries

Moldovan Minister of Economic Development and Digitisation Dumitru Alaiba announced that Moldovan citizens will benefit from lower roaming charges for calls to countries in the European Economic Area. These offers, which came into force on 21 December, cover all 30 countries in the European Economic Area, including Romania, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland and others, reports bani.md.

“From today, we will talk with our families and access roaming internet in Europe at lower prices. Two of the three mobile operators in the Republic of Moldova have launched attractive offers for mobile voice and data roaming in Europe. No matter which operator you use, you can benefit from significantly reduced tariffs,” said Economy Minister Dumitru Alaiba.

The lowering of roaming charges is considered an important step in Moldova’s European integration process, marking the country’s move closer to European standards. Dumitru Alaiba stresses that this initiative encourages connectivity between the diaspora and their families, supports business development for investors, and facilitates the exploration of new tourist destinations in Europe.

The initiative follows an agreement signed between operators in the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, with the support of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), the European Commission, and the Moldovan authorities. This agreement based on a voluntary commitment, follows the signing of a Joint Declaration in May to offer progressively more affordable roaming tariffs for travel between the EU and the Republic of Moldova.
