Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi to Attend EU Accession Talks in Brussels

Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi will pay a working visit to Brussels from July 14 to 16, where he will join the Moldovan delegation at the Moldova–European Union Intergovernmental Conference. During the meeting, the EU and Moldova will officially launch accession negotiations on Cluster 6, External Relations.

As part of Moldova’s EU accession process, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinates Chapter 31, which covers foreign, security, and defense policy.

During the visit, Popsoi is scheduled to meet several senior European officials, including EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, European External Action Service Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Olof Skoog, as well as vice presidents and members of the European Parliament.

The discussions will focus on Moldova’s EU accession process, strengthening cooperation with the European Union, regional security, and continued European support for the country amid current challenges.

Popsoi will also participate in a meeting of the European Parliament’s Security and Defence Committee (SEDE) and attend the event “The Foreign Policy of the Republic of Moldova: Challenges and Prospects,” organized by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

In addition, the foreign minister will speak at a high-level debate on EU enlargement during the panel “Building a Safer, More Resilient and Secure Europe.” The event will bring together European officials and representatives of EU candidate countries and will open in the presence of European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos and Seamus Boland, President of the European Economic and Social Committee.
