Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi met with Romania’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Luminita Odobescu. The officials discussed various topics, including bilateral relations, Moldova’s European agenda, and plans for future cooperation. The Foreign Affairs Ministry’s (MFA) press service reported it.
“We have an intense and efficient cooperation with Romania at all levels. Our relations are closer and more substantive than ever before. Romania’s support is recognized and appreciated by all Moldovan citizens, whether it involves the construction or renovation of kindergartens, the bridges connecting our banks along the Prut River, or projects in energy interconnection, transport, health, education, and culture,” Popsoi said.
“I also discussed with my Romanian counterpart the steps Moldova is taking to attain European Union membership as soon as possible. I emphasized the importance of the expertise provided by Romania in this accession process. Minister Odobescu assured me that Romania would continue to prioritize and solidly support Moldova’s reform efforts, including through the effective use of the 100 million euro agreement.

We also exchanged views on regional security and the support provided to Ukraine in the context of Russia’s aggression. We agreed to maintain the intensity of our diplomatic contacts by organizing a new round of political consultations between our Foreign Affairs Ministries shortly. Additionally, we are coordinating efforts to organize a trilateral meeting in Chisinau between Moldova, Romania, and Ukraine. It will allow us to jointly address regional challenges and identify common medium- and long-term solutions.
We thank Romania for the warm reception and the reaffirmation of the firm support we consistently receive,” Minister Popsoi said.
