On July 21, Prime Minister-designate Vasile Tofan asked Parliament for a vote of confidence to form the new Government. While some lawmakers expressed confidence in the incoming Cabinet, others predicted it would not last longer than six months.
MPs said they had reviewed the government program and considered it a solid document, while the opposition was more critical of the proposed team. Opposition lawmakers argued that there were too few new faces in the Cabinet and raised questions about the reputation and family ties of some of the proposed ministers.
Socialist MP Vlad Bătrîncea criticized the fact that the number of ministries had not been reduced. Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu responded by saying that opposition lawmakers “keep making predictions that never come true.”
Renato Usatîi also commented on the decision not to consider other candidates for the post of prime minister, while MPs from the “Alternativa” parliamentary faction argued that Vasile Tofan would not be the one truly in control of the Government.
