The government of the Republic of Moldova will continue exempting returning citizens from import duties on personal belongings and one motor vehicle. Authorities approved the legislative initiative to extend this mechanism for another year.

Until December 31, 2026, individuals who submit applications and meet the following criteria can benefit from the exemption: they must be at least 18 years old, hold Moldovan citizenship, have lived outside the country for at least 36 months in the last five years, and possess a permanent or temporary residence permit abroad.

Beneficiaries importing a car must follow specific conditions: the vehicle cannot be older than 10 years, its value must not exceed 550,000 MDL, and its engine capacity cannot exceed 3,000 cm³. Applicants must also hold a valid driver’s license for the vehicle category.

The law prohibits selling, donating, renting, leasing, or transferring possession or use of the imported vehicle for three years from the import date.
