Moldova’s €30 Million Initiative for Rural Transformation

Moldova has introduced a groundbreaking €30 million program, “European Village 2,” to address crucial infrastructure needs in rural areas.

With a focus on water supply, the initiative offers substantial grants of up to MDL 10 million (€560,000) for villages, encouraging proposals in areas like public lighting, building renovations, and sports facilities.

Building on the success of previous programs, “European Village 2” aims to deliver transformative projects and foster sustainable development. Minister Andrei Spînu urged active community participation, especially from mayors in areas lacking adequate water infrastructure.

Addressing a pressing need, Minister Andrei Spînu emphasised, “Water supply will be prioritised, as nearly 40% of Moldovan villages currently lack access to potable water.”

The initiative reflects Moldova’s commitment to creating resilient and thriving rural communities.
