Moldova’s budget for energy compensation during the upcoming cold season could reach approximately 2.5 billion lei, while the number of beneficiaries is expected to be higher than last year. The statement was made by Marcel Spatari, chair of the parliamentary Committee on Economy, Budget and Finance, during the “Rezoomat” program on Realitatea TV.
According to the MP, the state will provide compensation at least at the level of last year’s allocated budget. Depending on developments in energy prices, however, the authorities could identify additional sources of funding.
“Based on what I have discussed with the government, the intention is to increase the number of beneficiaries because prices this year are already higher than last year,” Spatari said.
Spatari noted that the Ministry of Finance is currently working on next year’s draft budget, so the exact amount has not yet been determined. He estimates that the allocation could be around 2.5 billion lei.
The compensation amounts under consideration would be comparable to those provided last year. The minimum compensation is expected to be 500 lei, while the maximum amount will depend on the energy source used for heating.
Last year, the maximum compensation was 800 lei for households using firewood for heating and up to 1,000 lei for consumers using other energy sources.
