Swimmers Tatiana Salkutsan and Pavel Alovatski will represent Moldova at the Olympic Games in Paris. They qualified at the European Swimming Championships, which ended yesterday in Belgrade, Serbia, IPN reported.
Tatiana placed 10th in the semifinals of the 200-meter backstroke, while Pavel showed his best result in the 400-meter freestyle event and was among the top 16 swimmers, placing 14th.
Alexandru Goryachev, president of the Moldovan Aquatics Federation, says that the swims were held in an open pool in 40-degree heat, making it difficult for the athletes to adapt and affecting their results. Moreover, some athletes even had to withdraw from the declared distances. Nevertheless, our athletes took part in five semifinals, being among the 16 best athletes in Europe.
