Moldova’s Path to the EU — Through European Eyes

Moldova’s journey toward European Union membership is gaining momentum, and Europe is taking notice. From Brussels to Berlin, leaders and diplomats are praising Moldova’s reforms, resilience, and commitment to democratic values. Here’s how Europe sees Moldova’s progress.

1. Moldova Completes Key EU Accession Milestone

In March 2025, Moldova reached a significant milestone in its EU accession process by completing screening meetings for Cluster 6—External Relations. This achievement brings the country halfway through the negotiation process.

2. Moldova Joins the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)

In March 2025, the National Bank of Moldova announced that the Republic of Moldova had joined the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). This decision reflects confirmation of significant progress in Moldova’s EU integration process. SEPA membership will facilitate faster, safer, and more accessible international payments in euros for citizens and the business environment in Moldova.

Janis Mazeiks highlighted the significance of this development, stating, “The European Commission had noted Moldova’s progress on a large part of the negotiation chapters, and this is the most important news.”
