The Presidential Administration of the Republic of Moldova is using a photovoltaic power plant to reduce electricity consumption. Representatives of the institution told Realitatea that during the summer months, the system covers around 20% of the administration’s total electricity needs.
Amid the ongoing energy and hydrological crisis, hot water supply has been suspended. The institution has also reduced consumption by “turning off decorative lighting for the fountains, which operate only as much as necessary to keep the water clean.”
Two elevators have been taken out of service, while officials continuously monitor and periodically analyze consumption indicators to identify additional efficiency measures. Lights and electrical equipment are switched off in unused areas, outside working hours, and on weekends and holidays, with compliance being monitored.
“In the context of the energy and hydrological crisis, the Office of the President of the Republic of Moldova is continuously implementing measures to improve energy and water efficiency in order to use resources responsibly. (…) Starting in 2022, conventional lighting fixtures were replaced with energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the building, except for the Historic Hall. The replacement of lighting fixtures in the Historic Hall is planned for the near future,” the Presidential Administration said in its response.
Officials also noted that Presidential Administration staff permanently monitor water supply systems and promptly intervene “to prevent and repair leaks.” The institution is also strengthening a culture of responsible resource use and regularly informs employees about best practices for saving energy and water.
Previously, government representatives told Realitatea that the institution had switched off lights in certain areas, adjusted the operation of the irrigation system, and turned off the fountain as part of its energy-saving measures. Meanwhile, the Parliament has also suspended the operation of some elevators and has stopped providing hot water.
