Natalia Morari – Candidate portrait

On September 24, authorities registered former TV journalist Natalia Morari as a candidate for President of the Republic of Moldova. She will be number 11 on the ballot paper. She was born on January 12, 1984, in Hincesti district. She is unmarried and has one child. She speaks Romanian, Russian and English.

Ms. Morari graduated from the “Gaudeamus” Theoretical High School in Chisinau, and from 2002 to 2007, she studied at the “Mihail Lomonosov” State University in Moscow.

Natalia Morari began her journalism career in Chisinau after being expelled from Russia for her investigative reports critical of the Kremlin. In Moldova, she worked for the TV station Publika and later became the moderator of political programs on TV7, a station owned by businessman Chiril Lucinschi, with whom she was in a relationship. In 2017, TV7 rebranded as TV8, and Morari took on the role of Chairwoman of the Board of Directors. She also had her author show – “Natalia Morari’s Politics,” which aired until September 2021. She also had a collaboration with Free Europe from 2009 until 2021. She scandalously left TV8 after it became known about her relationship with businessman Veaceslav Platon, who is still hiding from the justice system. The two have a child together. While Platon was in prison, Morari interviewed him in Penitentiary No. 13 and later called him into the TV studio after his early release.

Over the years, Natalia Morari supported the PAS government, but after her dismissal from TV8, she became a strong critic. This spring, Morari announced her intention to run as an independent candidate in the presidential elections. She also revealed plans to establish a political party and participate in the October 20 elections.

According to the declaration of assets and personal interests, in 2023, Morari received an income of more than 84,000 lei from the company “Media Sapiens SRL” and 36,000 euros as a donation for the maintenance of her minor child. Likewise, the former journalist indicated an income of over 21,000 lei from five SRLs. The candidate also owns a 176.8 sqm real estate acquired in 2021. She did not indicate the value of the property. According to the wealth declaration, Natalia Morari bought a luxury car in 2024, manufactured in 2023. It is Mercedes-Benz GLC-300 D 4MATIC. She did not indicate the price of the car, but according to specialized websites, it would cost about 60,000 euros.

In the same statement, Morari mentions owning a Chanel handbag purchased in 2021 for $10,200, a Chanel watch bought in 2013 for $8,000, and a Rolex watch acquired in 2010 for $7,000. He has five bank accounts and two loans, one in lei and one in euros, maturing in 2025 and 2034. From the sale of a bitcoin, Morari bought a bitcoin in 2022 for $11,238 and another bitcoin two months later the same year for $5,000.
