Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova, received the Leadership Award for Moldova’s Integration into the European SEPA Payment System at the prestigious Future Economy Gala – Women & Men CEOs Leading the Romanian Economy, organized in Bucharest by ZN PR & Events.
Ramona Chiriac, Head of the EU Representation in Bucharest, presented the award to Governor Dragu, recognizing her decisive contribution to Moldova’s historic acceptance into the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA)—a key step in the country’s financial integration with Europe. According to National Bank officials, this achievement allows Moldovan citizens and businesses to transfer euros just as quickly, safely, and cheaply as people in the EU.
“Joining SEPA is more than a technical milestone—it is a clear statement of belonging to the European family. This award reflects the vision and determination of a team building a modern, secure, and financially connected Moldova,” said Anca Dragu in her acceptance speech.

Governor Dragu also emphasized the positive outlook of Moldova’s banking sector:
“Our system is stable, well-capitalized, and steadily aligning with European standards. We see great potential in expanding financial intermediation and accelerating the digital transformation of services. Moldovan banks have made significant progress, from advanced mobile apps to instant payments via the MIA system, already used by one in three banked Moldovans. But at the heart of all these changes are the people, the professionals who lead, innovate, and shape the country’s economic future.”
During the gala, the organizers also launched the second edition of Future Economy – Women & Men CEOs, which features an in-depth interview with Governor Dragu. In the interview, she discusses the National Bank’s priorities in the EU accession process, the implications of adopting the euro as a reference currency, and the crucial role of women in financial leadership. Her statements reveal a clear strategic vision for modernizing the banking sector, strengthening stability, and advancing governance excellence.
Governor Dragu highlighted BNM’s direct involvement in three key EU accession negotiation chapters: free movement of capital, financial services, and economic and monetary policy. A coordinated institutional effort, including close cooperation with the National Bank of Romania, made Moldova’s SEPA membership possible.
The Future Economy Gala brings together leaders from the economy, public administration, and finance sectors, celebrating outstanding contributions that reshape the regional economy through vision, innovation, and responsible leadership.
