Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu paid a working visit to Washington, where he held talks with US officials and business representatives on the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and the attraction of American investments.
During discussions with US Secretary of Energy Chris Wright, Dorin Junghietu presented how Moldova overcame recent energy crises, including by importing about 40 million cubic meters of liquefied natural gas from the United States. The two sides also discussed new opportunities for US investments in Moldova energy infrastructure.
The visit agenda included meetings with the US Department of State, the Development Finance Corporation, and representatives of the American energy industry. The discussions focused on key projects such as the Straseni Gutinas high voltage power line, the construction of a new power plant with a capacity of about 250 MW, and the development of energy storage facilities.
The talks also addressed nuclear energy issues, including small modular reactors, and the possibility of signing long term contracts for liquefied natural gas supplies from the United States.
In addition, Dorin Junghietu took part in a roundtable at the Atlantic Council, where he spoke about the impact of attacks on Ukraine energy infrastructure and the measures Moldova has taken to maintain the stability of its energy system.
