New Local Investments in Electromobility: Made in Moldova

Moldova is taking a decisive step toward the future of sustainable transportation: the country’s first state-of-the-art electric trolleybus factory is being planned near Chișinău. Backed by an investment of approximately 5 million euros, the company InformBusiness is launching an ambitious project that will encompass the entire production cycle—from design and engineering to final assembly. The new factory will span 20,000 square meters, create around 100 jobs, and produce up to 15 electric transport units per month, Invest Moldova reported.

Since its founding in 1990, InformBusiness has evolved from developing software and microelectronics to providing complex electric transport solutions. A key turning point came in the year 2000, when the company began addressing Chișinău’s critical mobility needs. From that moment on, the story of InformBusiness has been one of innovation and adaptability.

“The most significant achievement of InformBusiness since its inception is its transformation into a manufacturer of electric transport. This strategic move marks a major evolution from its initial activities, positioning it today as a key player in the development and assembly of electric vehicles for urban public transport,” says Vitalie Eșanu, founder of InformBusiness.

A major milestone for the local automotive industry was the acquisition of the first officially registered VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) in the Republic of Moldova. This means the MD trolleybus—designed and assembled entirely in the country—marks the beginning of a new era in domestic electric vehicle production, with potential for export to European markets and beyond.

InformBusiness’s product range includes traction inverters, advanced battery management systems, and electronic control equipment, all developed for trolleybuses, electric buses, and trams. These components are designed and manufactured in Chișinău through a fully integrated production chain. The company’s technology is already in use in over 170 cities worldwide—from Bucharest and Kyiv to major metropolitan areas across Asia and Latin America.

Continuous innovation is at the core of the company’s strategy. Hybrid autonomous trolleybuses, capable of operating solely on batteries and recharging quickly via the urban grid, are being developed alongside compact vehicles designed specifically for short urban routes—ideal for cities like Soroca or Ungheni. These solutions not only optimize energy consumption but also give access to environmentally friendly public transportation.

The economic impact is also reflected in the competitive quality-to-price ratio of the products: InformBusiness-manufactured trolleybuses are more affordable than the market average, without compromising on performance or reliability. The new factory in Trușeni city will boost production capacity, strengthening the company’s position as a regional leader and influential player in the green mobility sector.

In the near future, the company aims to expand its portfolio to include trams, further solidifying its role as a central pillar in the development of Moldova’s green transport industry. Through strategic investments and cutting-edge technological solutions, InformBusiness is actively contributing to carbon emission reduction and the promotion of a sustainable development model in Eastern Europe.

Beyond its economic contributions, company founder Vitalie Eșanu—one of the pioneers of Moldova’s electronics industry—is also a founding member of the Moldovan Association of the Electronics Industry (ACEM). With a network of 32 companies and educational institutions, ACEM supports innovation and the growth of the country’s tech sector. In collaboration with Invest Moldova Agency, the association helps its members participate in international trade fairs and exhibitions, raising the profile of Moldova’s electronics industry on the global stage.
