In an official meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration (MAEIE), the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nicu Popescu, engaged in discussions with Paolo Gentiloni, the European Commissioner for Economy, regarding the European integration process of the Republic of Moldova. During the meeting, Minister Popescu expressed his appreciation for the verbal presentation given by the European Commission, which has already acknowledged the full implementation of three out of the nine recommendations and recognized the significant progress made in relation to the remaining six recommendations.
“We expressed our gratitude for the recently announced Assistance Package for the Republic of Moldova by the European Commission, which will support the country’s efforts in deepening cooperation with the EU for the benefit of our citizens. This support clearly demonstrates solidarity towards the Republic of Moldova and the EU’s willingness to assist in the country’s transformative agenda and alignment with EU standards, ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity,” wrote Minister Popescu.
The Minister also highlighted the inclusion, for the first time, of a concise analysis of Moldova’s macroeconomic situation in the European Commission’s spring 2023 economic forecasts. He further expressed interest in connecting Moldova to the European Union’s Economic Reform Programs, similar to the Western Balkan countries. This endeavor aims to prepare the country for future participation in the coordination mechanisms of EU Economic Policy.
Minister Popescu’s meeting with Commissioner Gentiloni signifies the ongoing commitment of Moldova to its European integration aspirations. The discussions focused on strengthening the relationship between Moldova and the European Union, promoting reforms, and enhancing economic cooperation.
