World Education Day, designated by UNESCO to celebrate the work of educators, is observed on October 5th. Minister of Education and Research, Dan Perciun, has expressed appreciation for the dedication, patience, and perseverance of teachers, despite the challenges faced by the education system in the Republic of Moldova, as reported by IPN.
In a message dedicated to teachers, educators, and instructors, the minister expressed gratitude for their daily efforts in educating the younger generation.
“Your role is crucial when we discuss shaping the present and future of our country. Only together can we build a prosperous, peaceful, united, free, and strong society,” emphasized Dan Perciun.
The minister also expressed gratitude toward educators, noting that in the face of a changing world, teachers remain the guarantors of stability and ensure the continuity of our cultural and spiritual heritage.
“At the same time, I thank you for being open to adopting modern teaching practices to meet the needs of today’s students. I remain confident that you will contribute to the development and realization of our children’s potential, so that they may become worthy citizens of the Republic of Moldova. The Ministry of Education and Research team will make every effort to support you on this challenging journey,” declared Dan Perciun.
According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics (BNS), in the 2022-2023 academic year, there are 46,300 educators active in the Republic of Moldova, with the majority being women, accounting for over 86%. The average monthly salary is 8,417 lei. Most teachers work in primary and secondary education, comprising over 56%. Additionally, 8% of educators in primary and general education are under 30 years old, while nearly 21% are 60 years old and above. The majority of teachers in primary and general education teach Romanian language and literature, totaling nearly 2,700, followed by foreign languages with just over 2,600, and mathematics with just over 1,800.
