One year from the day Moldova received the status of a candidate state for EU accession: President’s message

On the first anniversary of the Republic of Moldova receiving the status of an EU candidate state, President Maia Sandu sent a message.

“This is a stage on our path to the EU, a stage that showed us that we have the support of European countries to build our future in the European family. On our path to joining the European Union, many transformations are taking place, and we are receiving tremendous assistance,” the head of state wrote.

Sandu also noted that thanks to the support of European partners, our country manages to improve conditions in schools and kindergartens, modernize roads, build bridges, and water and sewer networks, repair houses of culture, and strengthen the capacity of institutions to ensure peace and security of our citizens.

“We all understand that the transformation of Moldova into a European country involves several stages, a lot of work, and many changes, but with each stage, year after year, we are approaching the moment when we become a European state. And we will be proud of what we have done for our country and our children,” the President concluded.

Recall that the Republic of Moldova received the status of a candidate country for EU membership at the same time as Ukraine. On June 23, 2022, in Brussels, a meeting of the Council of Europe was held, during which the presidents and heads of government of 27 EU countries unanimously voted in favor.
