On Thursday, May 14, and Friday, May 15, the Republic of Moldova will host the Ministerial Session of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers, marking the conclusion of Moldova’s Presidency of the organization. This represents the country’s second time holding the rotating presidency since joining the Council of Europe, the first having taken place 23 years ago.
According to Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi, Chisinau will host more than 50 delegations, including several foreign ministers.
He said the discussions will focus on priorities set at the beginning of Moldova’s mandate: continued support for Ukraine, countering disinformation and foreign interference, strengthening security, and improving democratic resilience across member states.
Popsoi emphasized the role of the Council of Europe as a key platform for protecting democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights.
“It has been an honor and a great responsibility for our country to lead this organization for six months. At the end of the Ministerial Session, we will hand over the rotating Presidency to Monaco. We remain committed to promoting the values and principles that underpin the Council of Europe,” he stated.
