Over 80 young individuals from the Republic of Moldova are poised to engage in the inaugural edition of “Model European Union Moldova,” a dynamic simulation mirroring the decision-making processes of key European institutions. From April 12 to 14, 2024, within the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, these young participants will immerse themselves in the deliberation of authentic legislative proposals featured on the agendas of prominent politicians, collaborating to address pressing challenges faced by citizens.
In this inaugural rendition of “Model EU Moldova,” participants will scrutinize, deliberate, negotiate, and grasp the intricacies of political decision-making and its potential impacts. Each participant will adopt the role of a representative, embodying the stance of EU Member States or a political party, thereby contributing to discussions and proposing solutions on the selected topics. These young minds will delve into the nuances of issues, suggest amendments, and actively partake in the legislative process. The proposed discussion topics for this maiden event include:
- Lowering the voting age to 16 and enhancing youth civic participation.
- Safeguarding freedom of the press and countering misinformation.
Participants will undergo enriching workshops on these topics, the functioning of European institutions, debate techniques, and public speaking skills. The pinnacle of these activities will be a two-day simulation of the European Parliament, aimed at fostering critical thinking, assertive and effective communication, teamwork, and strategic planning.
Young individuals from the Republic of Moldova, aged between 16 and 25, eager to delve into the workings of European Union institutions and contribute to the first edition of “Model EU Moldova,” are encouraged to complete the application form by February 18, 2024, accessible at: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfVyr5UHlI0fU07JX-8LLbOIcL1mNuC24Kj3B-b_yeSnvRwow/viewform.

The collaboration involves the EU NEIGHBOURS east program, the National Youth Council of Moldova (CNTM), and the EU Information Centre in Chisinau – Europe Café. This event aligns with the “European Year of Competences,” aiming to inspire young people to actively participate in the decision-making process.
