The ruling Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) has held an internal meeting to review potential candidates for the positions of prime minister and cabinet ministers in the next government, according to PAS leader and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu.
However, Grosu declined to reveal any names.
“We discussed what is also being debated in society — whether the prime minister should come from within the party or from outside it. I’m not going to give you any names, even though I understand the public interest is legitimate and significant. I believe that this week we will have greater clarity and present our candidate,” Grosu said.
At the same time, the speaker called on acting Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu to ensure continuity in the work of government ministries during the transition period.
Munteanu announced his resignation on July 3. Consultations with parliamentary parties are scheduled to take place at the Presidency this week as part of the constitutional process to nominate a new prime minister.
The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova, the Our Party parliamentary group, the Alternativa bloc, and Democracy at Home have announced that they will not participate in the consultations.
