Photographing Ballots and Posting Them Online is Punishable! Caraman: Do Not Violate Voting Secrecy

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) warns that photographing and posting ballots on social media is prohibited, and individuals who do so risk penalties. Polling stations in Chisinau, Comrat, Soldanesti, and Telenesti have reported several such cases, according to IPN. By 1:00 PM, over 720,000 citizens had cast their votes, according to official data.

“We received reports of several cases where voters’ marked ballots were made public. I want to remind everyone that this is punishable by fines. I urge polling station staff and citizens to respect voting secrecy and not publicly display their marked ballots. Whenever this occurs, we will request the initiation of legal proceedings against those responsible for this violation,” stated Central Electoral Commission President Angelica Caraman.

Officials recorded five more incidents, including an intoxicated person at the polling station, conflicts, and acts of hooliganism. In Soroca, authorities identified a case of unauthorized electoral display, while in Orhei, Briceni, and Riscani, they reported four cases of electoral agitation.
