“The economy of the future will not reward waste, but efficiency. And we want the Republic of Moldova to be among the countries that win this competition,” Moldova’s Prime Minister said at the Moldova Green Finance and Investment Forum.

The prime minister attended the event on Monday, 29 June, dedicated to green investment and the transition to a sustainable economy, where he spoke about the changing way modern economies are assessed. According to him, it is no longer enough to measure how much an industry produces, but also how much it consumes, recycles and how efficiently it uses resources.

“In just half a century, environmental protection has moved from the margins of the public agenda to the centre of economic policymaking. The Republic of Moldova understands this reality. The EU–Moldova Investment Conference held a few weeks ago demonstrated that our country inspires confidence and is capable of attracting significant resources for modernization and economic growth. For us, the green economy is not a separate project from European integration. It is part of European integration,” the prime minister said.

He stressed that environmental protection has become strategically important in Moldova’s accession process to the European Union. Clean water, clean air, modern waste management, biodiversity protection, expanding forested areas and increasing resilience to climate change all contribute, first and foremost, to a better quality of life for citizens.

“For the Government, green investments are not only investments in the environment, but investments in the future of our economy,” the prime minister added.

The forum brought together representatives of the government, banks, the business community and international partners to discuss financing for green projects and the tools needed to support sustainable development in the Republic of Moldova.
